You Know Who... Has a Little SNACK

Terje Rypdal I don’t think I need to get into detail, but today was just a banger. There was so much amazing musiccreated and performed on this day in history that I had to make some tough decisions as to what to leave out. If you can’t find something here that gets you off, I have to question your relationship to your senses.   Click here to check it out: LIC Radio 3/23/2026     Terje Rypdal “Julenissen Er Blå” “(Santa Claus is Blue)”   (Terje Rypdal) Veranstaltung Junge Musik, Bremen, DE, 3/23/75     The Sinceros “Take Me to Your Leader” Mark Kjeldsen From The Sound of Sunbathing   (Columbia, 1979)   Underrated power pop group. You Know Who... Survived the Ides

Photo by Mohd Rasfan It was National Panda Day today. I didn’t know what to do with that information. I didn’t know until this week that the guy who wrote the theme to the Mary Tyler Moore Show was an old bandmate of Buddy Holly.   Pretty eclectic show today with some varied new record acquisitions. Tracks of the day ranged from Sinéad O'Connor to the Meat Puppets. The highlight was probably the all-star jam during Steve Winwood’s “Gimme Some Lovin’.”   Fred Neil was born ninety years ago today. We played a couple of tunes for him.   Lastly, I finally got to play that Soft Machine that got cut off three weeks ago. The last two weeks I just didn’t leave myself enough time at the end. Killer guitar work from Allan Holdsworth.   Click here to check it out: LIC Radio 3/16/2026     Adam Berenson “Unfinished Sympathy” (Mike Gibbs) From Tunnel of Love: The Gary Burton Quintet Project   (2025) Originally recorded by The Gary Burton Quintet with Eberhard W...

You Know Who... Daydreams

Harry Nilsson Photo by Tom Hanley One thing that you would not know about Brett and me (unless you listened to the episode I did with him on my old cloudcast years ago) is that we share a particular fondness for old television shows from   the 70s and their theme songs. That was why I was so excited when I went thrifting for records last week and found an album by Lawrence Hilton Jacobs, better known as Freddie “Boom Boom” Washington from Welcome Back, Kotter . I knew that I had to hip Brett to this. In kind, he pulled out Bob James’ classic theme to Taxi , “Angela,” which is so wonderfully wrought that it transcends sitcoms, eras, and even genres.   It had been over a week since the brilliant comic actor Catherine O’Hara passed away suddenly, but we still felt the urge to pay homage. Thanks to her hilarious and touching performance in the folk music parody A Mighty Wind , he found a lovely musical tribute. He also wanted to pay the same respects to the Italian singer, Tony Da...

You Know Who... Is Looking for His Cables

Call it "Corporate Rock" if you want, but Journey brought the "must-hear" track of the show. Good show, and technically it went pretty smoothy. Ironically the only technical hiccup that happened as when I tried to prevent another technical hiccup (I had forgotten to put the iPad into a privacy mode to prevent the mishap that ended last week’s show prematurely. Evidently, opening the settings mutes other apps.). Oh well.   I knew that I had to give a shout-out to Neal Sedaka, who passed last Friday. Only during the show did the news come out about John P. Hammond. With a little behind the scenes fumbling, I was able to pay tribute to him too. (I spend a bit of time talking about how his father was active in the nascent civil rights movement, but I think I neglected to say the punchline; that the “P” stood for Paul, and was named for the legendary black singer/actor/activist Paul Robeson.)   In any event, today’s show is worth listening to if only for the Journey’s li...
